I have terrible anxiety, and one of my symptoms is derealisation, which is effectively a numbing of all emotion and a feeling of being in a dream. It's horrible, and I am totally unable to accept it.

To make things worse I think this could be the result of damage from drug abuse, and so I don't really know if releasing can even help me.

I want to release and get out of this hell-hole, but how can I release if I can't feel my emotions? I am sick of being this way all the time.

Is it possible that some people can't release, or am I just not allowing myself to?

Thanks,

Simon

Hi Simon (nice name),

I don't have a quick answer for this...have you learned the technique yet?  I mean have you actually bought the CD's from the Release Technique www.releasetechnique.com or attended a weekend class? or bought the CD's from the Sedona Method?  If not, I would suggest this first.

I want to assure you that releasing is a natural process and we all do it (even though we may not have been aware of it)...so, yes, you will be able to release...it's just that we've had years of being an adult and learned to suppress or fight with the feelings so we don't think we can do it.  Once you start you will be able to continue...I hope this helps!

Lisa - I have to admit I have not purchased the courses yet. My last therapist (probably quite naughtily) gave me the sedona method on a flash drive. My greatest fear is that I am damaged and so can not release like normal people. However, if the real *me* is not the body, I guess my fears are unfounded?

Red O - yes, you hit the nail on the head, I have GAD. I get worked up very easily over small things, body sensations included. I am permanently in fight-or-flight mode, and I have social anxiety issues too.

I will try using that mantra, thanks :-)

Cheers guys!

Simon.

Hi Simon,

As I suggested before, it is usually best to buy or get the whole program.  It's a skill like riding a bike.  If you just listen to a little it doesn't really help.  When you have time sit down and listen or go to one of the live classes.  I've seen so many changes in people as they start to release..it's remarkable... but you need to be patient with yourself and the process.  Everyone thinks that they can get rid of all of their problems or issues in a short period of time...if they don't see results immediately they give up...it takes a persistence to even let go!

Hi Simon, I can tell you a few pointers from my experience:

1. "Numbed out" is just another feeling. "Can't feel anything" is just another thought\feeling.

I suggest that you just stay with what you're experiencing and step aside from any concept regarding what you need to do\have\be in order to release.

After all, you're experiencing something, aren't you?

2. As Lisa said above me, there's really no point in debating on something you haven't fully tried yet. Just do the whole course from start to end and see what happens.

I have personally released some "impossible issues" - I'm talking about things that have scientific names and a whole area of expertise around them in the world of psychotherapy. These are just mental concepts, they are not real.

I have also faced a few close people who told me that "it can't be done", or other sets of limiting beliefs. I just continued anyway.

3. You have stumbled upon a community with some great, experienced releasers. Get in touch with one of the coaches here, who usually give out a free session for every new client, and be helped. But be sure to complete one of the courses first.

Hi Simon,

It sounds like you are headed in the right direction...you know more than you think you know...somewhere deep inside you knows that this body and these thoughts are not the real you...but it takes a persistence of letting go of all of the thoughts/programs of limitation that we bought into to realize this.

Over time you will see glimpses for yourself that these were just feelings and thoughts and not the real you....but you have to see it for yourself...no one can convince you of this.

By the way, your statement:  "my greatest fear is that  I am damaged and so can not release like normal people" is just the next feeling.

Lisa

Thanks guys,

OK, quite a lot to take in here. Red O, I have tried the Panic Away programme years ago when it was all about the "one move", not this 21-7. I have watched the videos (thanks for the link), and will practice the 7 minute technique. That Barry guy is great, he has an excellent way of explaining it all. Breathing is no doubt a huge part of my illness, as I do not breath properly at all. I hold my breath and am constantly very tense. I sometimes think that will correct though if I release my negative emotions.

I just don't seem to find anything that works though. 9+ years of trying probably almost 50 techniques and really I just get worse. It's so hard for me to believe I can recover when I have this deep-seated belief that I am stuck like this due to brain damage (even though doctors dispute this).

Omer & Lisa - yes you are no doubt right. I need to see all these feelings, whether they are numbness or that dreaded feeling that I am permanently trapped like this, as *just* feelings, and try to release them.

I have the 1992 video course of the Sedona Method which I am preferring to the newer audio courses. I will allocate some time to really go through them and be persistent. I can't help thinking though that no way am I going to release the numbness which has been with me for 9 years very quickly!!

Thanks again,

Simon.
